I used to think for myself
Now I'm one of Jehovah's Witnesses
so my husband (who was never a jw) saw a christian bumper sticker today and asked me if the witnesses have any.
i said no (not that i know of anyway) so here are a few he came up with.. 'honk if you're a zombie'.
'my other car is noah's ark'.

this morning i woke up thinking about a friend of mine, i will call her sara...here's some of the back story.. we grew up together and have always been good friends, even though we wouldn't stay in touch, we would just pick up where we left off.
sara has always been different, and i never really knew what it was growing up, but i didn't care, she was my friend.
so we lost touch for many years and then about 4 yrs ago when i went back to my home town, we reconnected.
You dont need advice, you need to make a decision based on what you know and feel. How's that for advice?

Here are my suggestions:
"Listen to Mother, dont go to college!
"I'll be your slave if you'll be my Watchtower Society!"
"Elders Rule! but deny it."
"JW? know where your kids are?""
"I gave blood, was kicked out."
"Highlight Pens Rule"

Remember the old song, "Here I am Send me!". I am singing, "Here I sit, send someone else!"
The group? Dead Can Dance.
The album? Toward The Within
This is magical and it is interesting that besides the obvious english language songs ALL the rest are simply vocalizations that the female singer compares to speaking in tongues in that they just appeared as they were initially sung. Now those original persian sounding lyrics are sung exactly the same. It is very moving and very middle eastern in its sound though the two singers are Irish and Australian. Used to say Dark Side of the Moon but this transcends that. Try it. Dead Can Dance.

he runs circles around the dogmatic elders.

I commented the last time this was posted that the elders seemed unusually kind to him in view of his cocky attitude and obvious BS about "just having questions." They seemed to have compassion for his upbringing and his mother's fanaticism and father's seeming abuse. I thought they were following the party line very loosely but ultimately had to stick with the program which he expected anyway. Glad I didnt have to waste my time there.

Everytime I hear a prayer uttered by a JW male it is the same feeling, revulsion.
No. don't believe in it.
a few days ago i watch the old bill murray movie "what about bob" with my family and realized that i'm in the same situation as dr. leo marvin (played by richard dreyfus).
for those who have never seen this movie, dr. marvin is a psychiatrist who is unable to shake off an obsessed patient who manages to track him down during his family vacation.
the patient befriends the family who see him like a charming man, when in fact he is driving dr. leo crazy.
Baby Steps NVR2L8, Baby Steps! Don't forget "Death Therapy" as a last resort!
with the book crisis of conscience detailing the turbulence at bethel during the early to mid 70's, the transformation from autocratic rule to governance by committee or a body of men, many of us can speak to how that felt among the rank and file of the local congregations during those years.
we learned new concepts based in large part to research done for the aid to bible understanding volume, then we were asked or coerced into unlearning those principles, going back to the old ways.
some of us never readjusted, finding ourselves very different from our more hardline compadres.. the inertia for the changes that eventually were initiated in the congregations came from the discovery that the greek words episkopos and presbyteros were used biblically to refer to all qualified men in a congregation, not just one.
It was the time of The Commentary on the Book of James a woefully unread book. That book set the tone for giving a shit about anyone but yourself without worrying what the corporation thought of you. I really liked the series of WT articles on the fruitage of the spirit. Then it went back to the fruitage of the corporation. Jerks.
